It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of beautiful memories that we announce the passing of our family’s matriarch, Concetta (Cugno) Cirinna, 94, of West Hartford. Concetta passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family she spent her life building.
Concetta’s story began on November 22, 1931, in the hills of Canicattini Bagni, Sicily. In 1944, she married her lifelong love, Santo Cirinna, beginning a 73-year partnership that was a testament to devotion and resilience. In 1966, they made the courageous journey from Sicily to West Hartford, bringing with them a rich heritage and an unwavering work ethic.
While Concetta was a talented seamstress and an avid reader, her greatest masterpiece was her family. She was the heart of every gathering, moving with grace through her kitchen as she prepared the traditional recipes that tied her children to their roots. Her table was more than a place to eat; it was a place of laughter, storytelling, and wisdom. For Concetta, "plenty" was never enough when it came to feeding those she loved, and her happiest moments were spent watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, flourish, and fill her home with life.
She was the devoted wife of the late Santo Cirinna (d. 2017) and the beloved daughter of the late Michele and Sebastiana (Pirotta) Cugno. Her legacy of love lives on through her five sons: Nino (Lucy) Cirinna, Corrado (Marisa) Cirinna, Salvatore (Nancy) Cirinna, Roberto (Susan) Cirinna, and David (Claudia) Cirinna. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a special piece of "Nonna’s" heart. She was predeceased by her brother, Michele Cugno.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Worthington Manor for the compassion, love, and dedicated care they provided.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Concetta’s remarkable life on Saturday, January 31, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel, with entombment at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
