

Concetta “Connie” (Stocco) Filippa, 79, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Vincenzo Filippa, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, with her family by her side. Connie was born on April 4, 1945, in Pianopoli, Catanzaro, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Raffaela (Nicotera) Stocco.
Connie and her family immigrated to the U.S. in 1955, settling in Hartford. Overcoming the language barrier, Connie graduated from Bulkeley High School. She and Vincenzo were married in Italy,1963 returning to make their home in Hartford’s South End. Wonderful family memories were made on Adelaide Street, and they continued when they moved their family to Wethersfield. At an early age Connie developed an exceptional talent for cooking, her kitchen was always a warm and welcoming place. Sundays were spent preparing huge, delicious meals for family and friends to enjoy and everyone knew they did not need an invitation to visit, the door was always open. No one will ever forget her potato vraciole that became synonymous with her name or her sponge cake, a recipe she shared but no one mastered.
Connie also worked outside the home, her later years at Hartford Hospital in the cafeteria where she kindly greeted folks as they came through. She was a longtime communicant of the Church of the Incarnation and will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and special “Auntie Connie” to many.
Connie sadly leaves her daughter, R. Lynn Costa, her husband Bill of NV, her sons, Frank A. Filippa, his wife Dawn of Windsor, Vincent Filippa and Colleen Pons, of Wethersfield. Her grandchildren, Tianna Costa-Moore, her husband Steven, Will Costa, Carina Filippa, her fiancé Jonathan Higginbotham, Cameron Lawlor and Brendan Lawlor, they all love and will miss their Nonna very much. She also leaves her brothers-in-law Angelo Filippa, his wife Lina, Tommaso Filippa, his wife Maria, her sister-in-law Rosa Grandinetti, her husband Cesare, all from Italy. In addition, Connie leaves her dear cousins Rosa DePamphilis, Josephine Orsini and Frank Nicotera along with her long-time special friend, Molly Bertuca. Connie will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Along with her husband and parents, Connie was predeceased by her brothers Frank Stocco, his wife Phyllis, Vincenzo Stocco, his wife Uliana, her nephew Anthony Stocco, and grand-nephew Silas Bunnell. Connie is now reunited with her precious grandson Nicolas “Nico” Filippa, her beautiful Angel who is welcoming her into eternity.
Connie’s family would like to thank the staff of Glastonbury Health Care and Constellation Health for their care and compassion and a special thank you to all those who visited their mom.
The funeral procession will leave the D’ Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 15th, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Incarnation (Christ the King Parish}, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, (Section 23C), Elm Street, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 14th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
