

Curtis M. Cooper, 94, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Gitchell) Cooper, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Born in Oswego, NY on April 14, 1921, he was the son of the late Morton Benjamin Cooper and Anne Weltha (Sprague) Cooper. He will be dearly missed by his four children, Diane Ficara and husband Salvin of East Hartford, Michael Cooper and wife Edith of Greensboro, NC, Sally Ann Cooper of Charlotte, NC, Jeffrey Cooper and wife Terry of Athol, MA, and numerous adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Curtis was predeceased by his son, David Curtis Cooper in 2008 and grandson, Timothy Wenzler in 1974. As a WWII veteran, Curtis' service began with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a glider pilot. When the program was held back he re-enlisted in the U.S. Army Infantry in France and Germany repairing telephone systems in POW camps. As a skilled radio and TV engineer, and entrepreneur, Curtis has a U.S. patent, and owned several franchises including Executone, Inc. in Central NY. Curtis was a long time Rotarian in Syracuse, NY, Charlotte, NC, and an honorary member in Glastonbury. His community service included many years as a Boy Scout troop leader and Sunday school teacher for inner city boys. A Memorial Service for members of First Baptist Manchester Church and Glastonbury Community Church is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22nd at Glastonbury Community Church, 113 Stancliff Road in Glastonbury. Private graveside services with military honors will be held in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, NC. The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield is assisting Curtis' family with arrangements.
