Daniel “Dany” Humberto Tovar, 76, of Wethersfield, CT, beloved husband of Teofila (Silva) Tovar for 45 years and loving father to Andrea Tessie Gehen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Dany was born in Miraflores, Peru in 1948. He was the third of eleven siblings to his parents Feliciano Tovar Seguil and Manuela Lucinda Castilla de Tovar.
He attended High School at “Instituto Industrial Tecnico No 1 Estados Unidos” in Lima, Peru. He graduated with a concentration in Electronics. He gained admission into Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal in Lima, Peru and completed 3 years of an undergraduate degree in Economics. While attending college, he also worked for about 10 years as a high school teacher, becoming the head of the Electronics department. He had a passion for teaching.
Dany met the love of his life one day when he went looking for his late best friend (and later brother-in-law) Maximo “Max” R. Silva. Teofila, familiarly known as “Tesi”, opened the door. It was love at first sight.
He married Teofila on January 5, 1980. Dany later immigrated to the United States in 1983 with his wife as permanent residents. They welcomed their only daughter Andrea Tessie in 1986. When the announcement of the birth of their daughter was made, he cried tears of joy. He became a U.S. citizen in 1997, after intensely studying for his citizenship exam.
In the U.S., Dany learned and practiced a different trade as an auto mechanic, in the same location as his late brother-in-law and dear friend Propicinio “Gerardo” Pelaez. Dany worked at Gengras for many years combining his knowledge of cars with electronics to keep up with the changing technology. As a result, he earned several yearly service awards. He later worked at Legrand and finally retired in 2020 after 10 years of service.
Outside of work, he loved music (especially Santana) and playing the electric guitar, including in a band in his younger years.
Besides his wife Teofila, Dany is survived by his daughter Andrea Tessie and son-in-law Daniel Gehen, and his only grand-daughter, Juliet. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Julia Silva of Wethersfield, sister-in-law Rosa Pelaez of Newington, brother-in-law Carlos Miller Sr. (Frida) of Florida, and sister-in-law Lea Silva of Broad Brook, CT. He is also survived by his two brothers Jose Tovar Castilla and Marco Tovar Castilla (Rosario) in Lima, Peru, as well as five sisters Maria Tovar de Cavero, Rosa Tovar de Gutierrez (Marco) of Hartford, CT, Ana Tovar of Lima, Peru, and Luz and Violeta Tovar of Newington, CT.
He was predeceased by his siblings Jacinto, Marta and Eva Tovar Castilla. We have a large, extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, and relatives in CT, Peru, Italy, Belgium, and Spain, as well as the Medina family in Florida, USA.
Dany was a fighter, always fearless and relentless. We will continue to honor and remember him for all his achievements in life. He was a good son and brother, an excellent friend, and caring husband and father.
