

Edmund F. Picano, 64, of Rocky Hill, husband of Katherine (Smith) Picano, died peacefully on Thursday, (January 25, 2007) after a brief illness. He was born August 14, 1942 in Hartford and is the son of Rose (Mudano) Picano of Wethersfield and the late Frank Picano. Ed was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, Class of 1961. He served in the US Army Reserve. Edmund owned and operated Queen Street Discount Liquors in Southington for over 15 years and prior to that he worked for the former Brescome Distributors for over 20 years. Ed was an avid boater and sports fan. The summer weekends on his boat will always be remembered. He loved his family above all else. Ed also enjoyed fine wine, good food, friends and conversation. He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Besides his wife, Kathy, and his Mom Rose, he is survived by two sons and a daughter, John T. Picano, Daniel A. Picano and Rachel MacDonald and her husband, Craig all of Rocky Hill, a grandson, Noah D. MacDonald, two sisters, Carol Dorman and her husband, Harvey of Old Lyme and Joan Wood and her husband, James of Wethersfield, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Barbara Smith of Southington and two nieces and two nephews. A very special thank you to the nursing staff on Bliss 11 and Bliss 5 at Hartford Hospital, (especially Jennifer) also Dr. Mark Dailey and Dr. Sharon Diamen for all of the care, compassion and love shown to Ed and his family during his illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 29, at 10 a.m. at St. James Church, Rocky Hill. Please go directly to the church. The burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Sunday, January 28, from 3-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield.
