Edward T. Fiorentino,

Edward T. 'Big Ed' Fiorentino, Sr., 85, of West Hartford, beloved husband and best friend of Yolanda (DePoalis) Fiorentino, for over 60 years, died Monday, February 22, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born November 9, 1924 in East Hartford and was the son of the late Salvatore and Pauline (Casanova) Fiorentino. He was a World War II, US Army veteran. Ed was employed by Northeast Utilities, formerly Hartford Electric Light Company for over 30 years, retiring several years ago. In his younger days he was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a member of the VFW and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, were he enjoyed playing his weekly card game. Ed always did everything for the love of his life, Yolanda, they had many, many good times together. He was always willing to lend a hand and help, especially giving rides to people. People would be surprised when Ed handed them a clove of Elephant Garlic, some would wait for him to do exactly that. He had a fondness for scratch and Lotto tickets, he never won the big money but enjoyed trying. Ed was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church as well as a member of the Mr. & Mrs. Club. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo at the Casino, good food and conversation. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughters, Paula and Madeline and son, Edward Jr., and sister-in-law, Louise Fiorentino. He was predeceased by brothers, Salvatore and Joseph and sister, Concetta Annino. He will never be forgotten by his grand dogs, Dio and Phillis. A special thank you to St. Francis Hospital ICU staff for the care given to Ed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (February 27) at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick & St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford. The burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield with full military honors. There will not be any calling hours. Funeral arrangements by the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel.
