Elisa Gualtieri

Elisa Gualtieri, 96, of Newington, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025 at Avery Heights surrounded by her loving family and a wonderful staff. Born in Avezzano, Italy on June 27, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Loreto and Lucia Ianotti and one of fourteen children. Elisa was a longtime resident of Newington and an owner of Roma Tailors in Newington.

Elisa and her children immigrated to the United States in 1964, after her husband, Claudio came to the country as a tailor. She made a loving home for her and her family and enjoyed many happy memories. They worked hard and had a great life together. In their later life, they found a love of the casino. They enjoyed many weekends at Foxwoods and had lots of fun.

Elisa is survived by her husband of 74 years, Claudio; her daughter, Anna Zavarella and husband Emidio; her son, Walter Gualtieri and wife Marisa; her seven grandchildren, Michelina Dugas and husband Michael, David Zavarella, Donna Tardif and husband Nick, Claudio Gualtieri, Claudio Zavarella and wife Kristen, Frank Gualtieri and wife Kristen and Luigi Zavarella and wife Becky. She also leaves behind thirteen great grandchildren, Emilia, Alyssa, Kendall, Riley, Madilyn, Olivia, Lucas, Gabriella, Nico, Mackenzie, Annabelle, Preston and Gabriel, as well as her many nieces and nephews in Italy and Canada. She will truly be missed by all of us.

In addition to her parents, Elisa was predeceased by her precious great grandson, Davide Tardif. The family expresses special thanks to Anna and her staff at Avery Heights for all the care and love they gave on a daily basis to Elisa.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 6 from 9-10 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church of Annunciation Parish, 626 Willard Avenue, Newington.
