Eugenia “Jean” (Carabase) McGee, 70, of Cromwell, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her home. Jean was born in Hartford to the late Dukas and Mary (Zanettos) Carabase, with the family later moving to Wethersfield. A graduate of Wethersfield High School, class of 1972, she remained in contact with many of the friends she made there and enjoyed lunches with them. She was predeceased by her brother, George Carabase. Eugenia leaves behind her siblings; Irene Coviello and her husband Phil, Maria daCunha and her husband Thomas, Penny Kemp and her husband Robert and Anthony Carabase and his wife Marianne and her sister-in-law, Cathy Carabase.
She will be deeply missed by her two children, Joshua McGee and his wife Deb of Rocky Hill and Jennifer Roberts-McGee and her wife Jessica of Wethersfield. Jean will be especially missed by the three greatest loves of her life: her grandchildren, Frank McGee, Ella Roberts-McGee, and Easton Roberts-McGee. She loved and adored those three more than anything, and shined brightest when she was around them and truly loved being their Yiayia. She also leaves behind her former husband, Robert McGee and two special friends, James Nohilly and Nelda Babbitt, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other family and friends whom she adored and loved. Jean was also predeceased by her beloved canine companion, Bullet, who she is no doubt sitting on a couch with and watching down over all of us.
Jean, while quiet in nature, loved her big Greek family and “taking it all in” at family gatherings and being in the presence of everyone. She was proud of her Greek heritage, and greatly enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes and traditions with the younger generations of her family. She was an avid watcher of Lifetime and Hallmark movies, and especially appreciated it when the Hallmark Christmas Channel was launched so she could watch all of her favorites year-round. She was known as “Mom” to not just her own two children, but also their friends. She always loved chaperoning field trips, being on the sidelines of various sporting events, watching music and dance recitals and was the hang out house for all her children’s friends while they were growing up. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Davita Dialysis in Middletown for their compassionate care for Jean, as well as the Cromwell EMS and Police Department.
