

Fiore A. Parente, 92, of Rocky Hill and formerly of Hartford, beloved husband of the late Susan (Caracciolo) Parente, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 9, 2012. He was born on May 16, 1920 in Sepino, Province of Campobasso, Italy to Andrew Parente and Christina (Cusanelli) Parente. He immigrated to America when he was a child and resided on the East Side of Hartford and attended the Brown School and Henry Barnard Junior High, then moved to the South End where he lived for many years. He proudly served during WWII in the U.S. Army, 322 Field Artillery Battalion, and the 83rd Infantry. He fought in five major battles, including the Invasion of Normandy Second Tier on Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. Fiore was employed at the Silex Company for 21 years, Royal Typewriter for 14 years and became a Special Deputy Sheriff in Hartford Superior Court, where he was a supervisor at GA14 for 21 years. He also served on the Board of Selectmen for the City of Hartford for 14 years. He enjoyed bowling in his earlier days, loved to dance and play cards and enjoyed watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees. Fiore leaves to mourn his loving daughters, Laura Cherry and husband Robert of Wethersfield and Susan Castagna and husband Tony of Coventry. He also leaves his grandchildren, whom he adored, Suzanne Kiniry, Gina Alderucci and husband Marc, Lauren Frisbie and husband Rick, Christina Charest and husband Mark; his cherished great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kayse, Ariyana, Ricky, Gianna, Mia and Keirra, as well as several loving nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law, Rose Caracciolo. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Andrew A. Parente; brothers, John and Victor and sisters, Josephine, Patricia and Marie. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Lori and Juan of Willcare, the VA of Newington, VITAS Innovative Hospice Care and Aurora Senior Living Center of New Britain for all of their care and compassion in Fiore’s last days.
Funeral services will be on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford. Burial with full military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
