

George Denis Pacheco Coelho, 83, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband for 59 years of Lucy Fatima (Lopes) Coelho, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal on January 3, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Virginia (Pacheco) Coelho.
He spent his childhood in the Azores, then he met the love of his life Lucy and they married in Santa Maria, Azores. George immigrated to the United States in February 1967 accompanied by his wife and 3-month old daughter and settled in Connecticut. Prior to immigrating to the U.S., he worked in the offices of Azores Airlines, previously known as SATA Internacional.
George held dear to his Portuguese heritage with many traditions and enjoying delicious Portuguése cuisine. There were many parties shared with family and friends celebrating the summer & holidays. George was a fan of Sporting Futbol Club of Portugal and the Hartford Whalers. George was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and he was also a member of the Holy Ghost Portuguese Society. George was a man of great faith and drew strength through prayer and the faith he had in God.
George was kind and joyful, always smiling and bringing positivity to those around him. He was generous, supportive, and made others feel cared for and appreciated with his constant warmth. George enjoyed spending time with family & friends and traveling with his family spending numerous summers at Soundview Beach in Old Lyme. One of his great passions was making his own wine, pouring care into each batch as if it were a gift crafted from his soul. He took immense pride in sharing his creation with family and friends, and nothing brought him more joy than seeing them enjoying it.
George retired after 40+ years as a machinist for Jacobs, also holding the title of Treasurer for the local union. In addition to his fulltime job, George was also a CT Realtor, Tax Preparer for many years, in addition to being a notary public. After retiring, George and Lucy moved to Florida, living there 13 years but then decided to move back to Connecticut to be close to his immediate family.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, George will be forever missed by his devoted wife Lucy; his beloved daughters, Dulce Coelho (partner David Brann Sr.) of Rocky Hill, and twins: Linda (Coelho) Bird (partner John Shepard) of New Hartford and Lucy Coelho-Santos (husband Antonio “Tony” Santos), also of Rocky Hill and his adored grandchildren who brought him so much joy, Alexa, Nicholas, Isabella and Briela Santos, Olivia and Anabella Bird and David Brann, Jr. He is also survived by one sibling, Tiago Coelho and his wife Adriana; sisters-in-law Rose Coelho and Suzette Coelho, all of Wethersfield, and brother-in-law, Joe Monteiro of Canada, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by eleven siblings, Jose, Jacinto, Luis, Manuel, Joao, Antonio and Olivia Coelho, Cristina Ramalho, Conceicao Carvalho, Maria Jose Castanho and Olivia Monteiro.
Calling hours will be Saturday, September 21 from 12-3 p.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 3 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
