

George J. Hagi, 87, of Glastonbury and formerly of Wethersfield, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 at Hartford Hospital with his devoted family by his side. Born in Harford on August 30th, 1929, he was the son of late John G. and Despina (Tsesmeli) Hagi. He was a graduate of The Loomis Chaffee School ’47 and Brown University ‘51. George served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated for over 40 years, the former Hockanum Restaurant in East Hartford, that his father opened in 1929. George was a long time member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Hartford, captaining numerous inter-church sports teams and was an active national leader of G.O.Y.A. and AHEPA. He was also 62 year member of the Masonic Lodge #128. George served on the Board of Directors at The Gengras Center of St. Joseph’s University. He also volunteered in his retirement as a State of CT Long Term Care Ombudsman Advocate. His passions included extensive travel within 6 continents, cooking, the Red Sox and Green Bay Packers. George was predeceased by his first wife Katherine (Castros) Hagi and his second wife, Cindy Poulos-Hagi. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Darha Nigro and husband Ken, their children Michael and Zachary; son, John G. Hagi and wife Diane, their children Aleni and George; stepchildren, Charles and Linda Poulos, John and Susan Poulos, Laura and Al Chiulli, Leslie and Bill Poulos-Stover and their children Luke, Alexandra, Electra, Joe, Michael and the late A.J. He is also survived his beloved cousin, Mary Yimoyines, as well as many extended family members and friends. Funeral services will be Monday (June 5th) 11 am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 433 Fairfield Ave., Hartford with the Reverend Dr. George Zugravu officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Family and friends are invited to D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield on Monday morning 10-10:30 am prior to the church services. Calling hours are Sunday from 3-7 pm. with a Trisagion Service at 3:30 pm and Masonic Service at 5:00 pm
