Grace Webster Adams, 86, of Wethersfield entered into eternal rest on Friday, (December 2, 2011) at her home with her loving husband by her side. Born in Hartford on August 13, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elnor (Riga) Webster and was a lifelong resident of Wethersfield. She graduated from Wethersfield High School and received her B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. She was employed as an executive secretary for the Savings Banks' Deposit Guaranty Fund of Connecticut, Inc. now known as F.D.I.C. She was a long time member and former Deacon of the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield and an Associate Member of the Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, Florida. She was a past president of the Wethersfield Junior Women's Club, the Wethersfield Creative Arts Council, and the Wethersfield Chapter of the American Field Service, the Home Garden Club and the Women's Division of the Wethersfield Country Club. She was a member and served as Chaplain for the GX Chapter of P.E.O. in Naples and as Parliamentarian for the Nine Hole Women's Division at the Royal Poinciana Golf Club, Naples, Florida. She is also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America. She enjoyed music very much and was a member of the Hartford Oratorio Society, sang in church choirs for many years and enjoyed playing hand bells. She was well known for writing lyrics for the musical revues that were held at the Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples. She was also an active member of the Wethersfield Community Players. She leaves her family, for whom she had great affection, her husband, Welles of 64 years; her daughters, Barbara Mechler of Oxford, Sandra Williams and her husband David of Cortlandt Manor, NY; a son, Welles, Jr. of West Covina, CA and her six grandsons, Kevin Elliott, Eric and Christopher Mechler, Matthew, Dean and Christopher Williams, and to all her dear friends who gave her much joy. She especially loved music, books, handwork, birds and nature and was a fan of the UConn Women's Basketball Team.
Funeral services will be Wednesday (December 7, 2011) at 10 a.m. at the First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street, Wethersfield, with The Reverend T. Michael McDowell officiating. Family and friends may visit the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield from 4-6p.m on Tuesday (December 6, 2011). Everyone is asked to please go directly to church. The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
