
Heghineh ?Helen? (Karagozian) Ohanian, 99, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Mirdijian ?John? Ohanian passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2007. She was born in Gamis, Sepastia in historic Armenia, daughter of the late Agadjian and Elmas (Tamamian) Karagozian and had lived in the area many years. She was a survivor of the 1915 Armenian genocide, having endured a forced march ordered by Turkish authorities from Sepastia to Aleppo, Syria. She was raised temporarily in an Aleppo orphanage, moving to Varna, Bulgaria where she immigrated to the United States in 1923 and she was married in Hartford. She retired from Culbro Brothers Tobacco Warehouse after many years of service. She was very active during the war with the Armenian Garmir Khach (Red Cross). She leaves her loving family behind, a daughter Elizabeth and her husband Dr. Nick Bagdasarian, a son Harry and his wife Linette Ohanian with whom she resided for the last 7 years, all of Wethersfield, a daughter-in-law Sonia Ohanian of New Britain, her cherished 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son Paul J. Ohanian, a daughter, Sarah H. Kalajian, grandchildren, John P. Ohanian, Harry John Ohanian, Helaina Surabian Connelly, Michael Ohanian, sons in-law, Peter Kalajian, Sarkis Surabian and 4 siblings. Helen?s family would like to thank the staff of VNA Hospice and Mapleview Manor for their care and compassion, especially Helen?s caregivers at home Alex and Louise. Funeral services will be Saturday at 9 A.M. from the D?Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield with services at 10 A.M. in St. George Armenian Apostolic Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Friday 4-7 P.M. A prayer service will be held at 6 P.M. with Father Gomidas Zohrabian officiating.
