Helene Jeanne (Guyen) Holcombe, 94, of Naples, FL (formerly of West Hartford), beloved wife for 54 years of the late Harold G. Holcombe, Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday (February 27, 2014) at her daughter’s home in Suffield. Born on December 2, 1919 in Noumea, New Caledonia in the South Pacific, she was the daughter of the late Henri and Victoire (Louis) Guyen. She met and married her husband in New Caledonia during WWII. They moved to the U.S and settled in West Hartford, where they raised their family before moving to Florida 20 years ago. Jeanne volunteered with several Hartford area charitable organizations and served as hostess and French translator for many foreign diplomats. She loved gardening and sewing but will be most remembered as a gracious and elegant hostess who enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Jeanne will be dearly missed by her three children, Joan H. Prior of Marlborough, Michele E. Holcombe and her husband Larry Brickner of Suffield and Thomas H.G. Holcombe of Marlborough; seven adored grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Heidi, Matthew, Nicholas, Alexis and Ryan and six special great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield is assisting the family. Donations in Jeanne’s memory may be made to Oak Hill, 120 Holcomb St., Hartford, CT 06112. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopo.com.
