

Irene (D'Ambrosio) Milhomens, 71, of Newington and Old Saybrook, beloved wife for 39 years of the late Joseph D. Milhomens, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Born on May 28, 1946 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Majerski) D’Ambrosio. Irene was a 1964 graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Hartford and a 1968 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse for 20 years at St. Francis Hospital in the ICU and then worked for the Hartford VNA for over 20 years. She retired from the New Britain Board of Education, where she worked for many years as a school nurse. Irene spent many happy summers with her husband and family at Chalker Beach in Old Saybrook, and she was a longtime member of the Chalker Beach Association. She was a proud grandmother who loved taking pictures of her grandkids and scrapbooking them. She enjoyed various other crafts as well, and was an avid fan of the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams. More than anything, Irene loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. Big birthday dinners were her specialty and everyone looked forward to them.
She will be forever missed by her two loving children; Joseph Milhomens and wife Marcy of Wolcott and Andrea Hillman and husband Everett of Newington and her five adored grandchildren, Everett Joseph Hillman, Zoe Irene Hillman and Cristiano Alfred Hillman, all of Newington and Sophie Carolyn Milhomens and Joseph Michael Milhomens, both of Wolcott. Irene is also survived by her brother, Joseph A. D’Ambrosio, Jr. of Bloomfield; cousins Anthony Bednarczyk of Olyphant, PA and Janet Bednarczyk Kosydar of Dickson City, Pa; her aunt, Rose D’Ambrosio of Clinton; her brother-in-law, Manuel Milhomens and wife Maria Ines of Bloomfield; four sisters-in-law, Maria Petrella of Rockville, Lucy Pappalardo and husband Tony of Florida, Lillian Rinaldi and husband Tony of Rocky Hill and Tina Corso and husband John of Cromwell; a special nephew, Joel Milhomens and wife Suzanne of Manchester; a longtime, dear friend from nursing school, Margie Sullivan Fernald and husband Peter of Burlington; her pet dog, Maxine and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services will begin Tuesday (May 15) at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 27), Hartford. Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
