James A. Salvatore

James A. Salvatore, 86, of Rocky Hill, formerly of Cromwell, beloved husband of Alvina (LeRoy) Salvatore for 62 years, passed away peacefully Wednesday, (September 30, 2009) at home with his family by his side. He was born in Hartford and was the son of the late Anthony and Marie (Monacchio) Salvatore and lived in the Greater Hartford area all his life. Throughout his adult life, he was involved with construction and restaurant businesses. Most notably, he owned and operated Big Jim's Restaurant on Main Street in East Hartford in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Jim was active in the Democratic Party in Hartford in the 1950s. He will be dearly missed by his devoted family and many friends. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Cromwell Police Chief Anthony J. Salvatore, Sr. and his wife, Sharon of Cromwell, Monroe Police Chief John L. Salvatore and his wife, Susan of Monroe; three daughters, Lynn Roccanello and her husband, Bill and Sheryl Hutchinson and her husband, Donald, all of Rocky Hill and Janice Menze and her husband, Russ of Glastonbury; four sisters, Theresa Walicki and Dolores Cwikla and her husband, Fred, all of Wethersfield, Mary Cormier and her husband, David of Myrtle Beach, SC and Joan Malinowski of Wethersfield; 14 grandchildren, Anthony J. Salvatore, Jr., Jamie Lynn DeShong and her husband, Ned, Jay M. Salvatore, James E. Salvatore and his wife, Jennifer, Megan Salvatore, William D. and Tracy Roccanello, Eric, Sean and Kelsey Hutchinson, Alec, Tyler, Evan and Justin Menze and five great grandchildren, Nicolas and Lucas DeShong and Cole, Tristan and Olivia Salvatore. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine. Prayer service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. The burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service.
