Jessie (Miller) Linicus

Jessie (Miller) Linicus, 84, of Wethersfield, died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Hartford Hospital. Born in New Milford, she was the daughter of the late Frank Pierpont Miller and Elsie (Garrigus) Miller and lived in Kent for many years where her father was the farm manager at the Kent School. She was a graduate of Northfield-Mount Hermon Academy and the University of Connecticut, earning her Master’s Degree from the University of Hartford. Jessie taught physical education at Wethersfield High School from 1968 until her retirement in 1991. She was also chairwoman of the WHS Girls Athletic Association. She was a member of the Connecticut Association of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (CAHPE&R). She was an avid golfer and superior equestrian. She was a member of the Indian Hill Country Club and Litchfield Country Club, as well as a former Wethersfield High School Varsity Badminton Coach and at one time coached State Badminton Champion, Felicia Hutnick. She did extensive volunteer work with the Wethersfield Historical Society and was honored as Volunteer of the Year for 2014. Her volunteer work also included many hours with various committees with the First Church of Christ in Wethersfield. She served on the scholarship committee for over twenty years including time as chairwoman. She is survived by her sisters; Elsie June Butler in Virginia, Lois Stephens and her husband Ralph Stephens, M.D. of Reno and Bertha “Bea” Matranga in Florida, her dear friend, Millard H. Mason of Wethersfield and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother Dwight Miller and her sister, Mary Whitney. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 11 a.m. in First Church of Christ, 250 Main St., Wethersfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
