Joaquim R. Vicente, 92, of West Hartford, beloved husband for 61 years of the late Beatriz Rosa (de Jesus) Vicente, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Born on September 28, 1933 in Tornada, Val do Couto, Portugal, he was the son of the late Pedro and Maria (Rita) Vicente. Joaquim came to the U.S. in 1967. He worked many years as a plaster and mason with his brother-in-law, and later he worked in Environmental Services at Mt. Sinai Hospital until his retirement in 2001.
His most rewarding time was the time he spent with his son and daughter in law – always finding something funny and creative to do, and enjoying Sunday’s pasta dinners. He enjoyed gardening and working with his son doing different projects around the house. He loved and enjoyed playing soccer in his younger years and later in life following his beloved Benfica.
A loving father, Joaquim will be forever missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Joaquim “Jack” Ribeiro and wife Andreina of Rocky Hill. He will be dearly missed by his nieces, nephews, (especially, Manuel Rodrigues) and his dear friends and close neighbors.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joaquim was predeceased by a sister, Noemia Patacho and two step brothers in Portugal.
Calling hour will be Tuesday, January 6 from 9-9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford.
