

Joseph V. Amato, 91, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 68 years of Lucy (Cobisi) Amato, died Monday, November 2, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford on September 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Sebastian and Maria (Mozzicato) Amato and was a 1943 graduate of Bulkeley High School. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He retired from MDC as a General Foreman and was a founding member of the MDC Credit Union. He also belonged to the MDC Retirees Club and was a former member and President of the 25 Year Club. Joe was an avid bowler and golfer, but more than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his devoted wife Lucy; son, Joseph M. Amato and his wife Lisa of Glastonbury; daughter, Joanne Johnson of Dover, NH and his three adored grandchildren, Kristina Amato, Nicole Monahan and her husband Sean and Michael Amato. He was predeceased by his infant sister, Lucietta Amato. Special thanks to Joe’s caregivers from VITAS Hospice.
The funeral is Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
