

Joseph A. Cianci, Sr., 94, of Old Lyme, formerly of Haddam St., Hartford peacefully passed away on Saturday, (September 6, 2008) at his home with his caring family by his side. He was the devoted and loving husband for 68 years to the late Josephine (Amenta) Cianci, who was the love of his life. Born in Canicattini Bagni, province of Siracusa, Italy, a son of the late Paolo and Concetta (Gangi) Cianci, he had resided in Hartford for most of his life prior to moving to Old Lyme one year ago. He retired in 1968 from Royal Typewriter in Hartford where he was employed as a general foreman and supervisor for over 30 years. He was a member of the South End Seniors Club, the Young Italians American Club and the Canicattinese Society all of Hartford. Joe was an avid bowler who participated in many leagues at the Bowl-O-Rama in Newington, along with enjoying playing cards, especially the game ""setback"", collecting reel-to-reel movie films, and being a fan of boxing and wrestling. However, Joe's favorite things in life were family and friends, a nice dish of pasta and sauce, followed by a cup of coffee and something to dunk in the coffee. Joe is survived by his two beloved daughters, Concetta ""Connie"" Lewis and her husband, Arthur, of Old Lyme with whom he made his home, Linda P. Cianci of Old Lyme; a beloved son, Joseph A. Cianci, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Ellington; four special grandchildren, Concetta ""Connie"" Griffith of Port St. John, FL, David A. Lewis and his wife, Kim, of Colchester, Kristin L. Richard of Gales Ferry, Christopher J. Cianci of Tolland; six adored great-grandchildren, Anthony and Tori Griffith, Elizabeth and Michael Richard, Emery and Elliot Lewis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The funeral is Tuesday, September 9th, at 10 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, 494 New Britain Avenue, Hartford. Burial will be Rose Hill Memorial Park (Section #9), Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, September 8th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
