Joseph John Cirone Sr.

Joseph John Cirone, Sr., 85, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Joseph was born in Hartford on August 12, 1932 and was the son of the late Dominic and Angela (Chiaradia) Cirone. After serving in the U.S. Army, Joseph began working at Hartford Public High School, first as a teacher and after earning his doctorate degree he enjoyed a career as an administrator. Joseph was best known for all of the years he was head coach of the school’s varsity football team. Not only was he a dedicated coach, he devoted himself to mentoring all of his students. During his teaching/coaching career he enabled many of his students to achieve their dream of attending college. Many of them still remain in contact with him. In 2005 Joseph was inducted into the Hartford Public High School Hall of Fame as a Legendary Coach, an honor he was quite proud of.

Joseph will sadly be missed by his son, Joseph John Cirone, Jr. of West Hartford, his daughters, Dawn Thompson and her husband Ralph Jr. of West Hartford, Laura Tirone of West Hartford and Barbara-Jo Hinds of West Hartford. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Joseph John Cirone, III, Ryan Michael Cirone, Nichole Jimenez, Justin Thompson, Austin Thompson, Jordon Tirone, Taylor Tirone, Kelly Hinds and Robert Hinds, his great-grandchildren, Javien Thompson and Vhiana Torres. In addition he leaves his sister Angela Chiulli and his ex-wife Barbara DeFoe along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by the mother of his children Barbara (Chandler) Cirone and son-in-law Wayne Tirone.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 at the funeral chapel.
