
Joseph John Gentile, 88, of Wethersfield, loving husband of Carmela M. (Zitani) Gentile, went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday (January 27, 2010) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Middletown on November 22, 1921, a son of the late Carmello and Mary (Garafalo) Gentile, he had been a resident of Wethersfield for the past fifty-two years. Joseph was a graduate of Middletown High School and a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. Prior to his retirement Joe was employed for forty years by Herbert's Men's Clothing Store in Middletown where he was a salesman and assistant manager. After Herbert's closed, Joe continued his employment at Regal's Clothing Store in Middletown for several more years. Joe was a faithful communicant and former usher at Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield. An avid golfer, loyal fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN Huskies and an overall sports enthusiast, Joe still received his greatest joy in life by spending time with his wife and family. Along with his beloved wife, Carmela, of fifty-seven years, Joseph is survived by many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former customers. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 30 at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Avenue, Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield.
