

Joseph A. Matteis, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida with his family by his bedside. Joseph has resided in FL for over 35 years, but was born in Hartford, CT. He resided on Holmes Circle in Farmington, CT prior to moving to Florida
In his earlier years he worked at Capitol Motors in Hartford as an auto salesman/manager, then opened his own very successful Hi Fidelity business (Hi Fi Stereo House) in Newington, CT. Since he was very young he had a passion for music and was an avid musician, playing the clarinet and saxophone religiously. Once Joseph moved to Florida he built another business (Forum Design), in which he constructed homes for the Palm Beach community. The last 20 plus years Joseph has been living out his dream as being the leader and founder of the “Gene Mattis Orchestra”, which was very dear to his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne (Grano) Matteis; his son James Matteis of Manchester, CT; and his sister and her husband, Catherine & Ray Lifka of St Louis. Joseph also leaves behind three granddaughters that he treated as his own daughters: Dawn Secor and her husband Jason of Bristol, CT, Jennifer Lazauski and her husband Raymond of Torrington, CT and Lisa Radzunas of Newington, CT. He also has five great grandchildren: Madison Rose, Megan Anne, Madison Rae, Jesse Garrett and Lucas Jackson. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be Monday (April 16) beginning at 11:00 am from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Avenue, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral chapel in Wethersfield.
