

Joseph J. Nowak, 86, a lifelong resident of Wethersfield, loving husband of Susanne (Servansky) Nowak for 61 years, died peacefully Sunday (October 10, 2010) at his home with his family by his bedside. He was born March 19, 1924 in Wethersfield and was the son of the late Joseph Frederick and Mary Rose (Kozlowski) Nowak. He was a graduate of Wethersfield High School, class of 1942 and a 1950 graduate of the University of Connecticut. He was a proud U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WWII. He was the credit union manager for Kaman Aerospace for 30 years, retiring in 1986. Joe was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing his abundant vegetable crops with family and friends. He was a beekeeper and amateur pilot. He enjoyed woodworking in his basement shop. He was a longtime faithful communicant of Corpus Christi Church, Wethersfield. Joe always had a smile on his face and he will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Nowak and a brother, Edmund Nowak. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elaine Guida and husband Peter of Wethersfield; twin sons, Richard Nowak and his companion Maryann Basile of Wethersfield and Ronald Nowak and wife Louise of Columbia; grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Nowak and Ethan and Matthew Guida; sister-in-law, Helen Walsh and husband Patrick of Wethersfield and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christ Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. The burial with full military honors will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
