Josephine (Quagliano) Maratta, 78, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Silvio Maratta, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Josephine was born on March 1, 1947, in Sassano, Italy, to Matteo Quagliano and Francesca (Russo). She immigrated to the United States, where she built a life filled with love, family, and dedication.
In 1984, Josephine and her husband Silvio proudly purchased and operated CJ's Pizzeria in Manchester, where they became beloved members of the community. Prior to that, she worked for Royal Typewriter. Josephine was an avid walker, enjoyed spending time by the beach, and was a faithful parishioner of her church. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, always welcoming family with warm meals. No grandchild ever left her house hungry, and many cherished memories of her famous pastina will live on.
Josephine was also the devoted owner of her loyal companion, Bella, who was as close to a child as she had.
In addition to her beloved husband Silvio, she will also be dearly missed by her three sons, Nick Maratta and wife Lisa, Matthew Maratta and wife Kristina, and Jason Maratta and wife Erin; her sweet five grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley and husband Taylor, Matthew and wife Jenna, Kayla, and Jordan; and her three precious great-grandchildren, Calen, Rylee and Daniel. She is also survived by her brother, John F. Quagliano.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the nurses at hospice and her caregiver, Patience, for their exceptional care and compassion. They would also like to acknowledge her devoted sister-in-law, Franca, whose unwavering support provided comfort throughout Josephine’s illness. Her husband Silvio was a devoted caregiver, offering love and strength in her final days.
The Maratta family invites relatives and friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, April 2, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 3, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please meet the family directly in church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
