Josephine A. (Marshall) Murray, age 96, of Wethersfield, passed on January 20, 2019. She was the daughter of Alexander J. Muszynski, Sr. and Lucy Renes Marshall. She was born in Clinton, MA on September 28, 1922 and resided in MA, RI, CT and FL. She was a legal secretary for most of her working years and retired from the Connecticut Office of the Attorney General in 1986.
Jo was born into a family of musicians. Each member played at least one instrument. Her mother was an accomplished piano and pipe organ player. Jo's passion was singing and she had studied voice under the direction of Minette Sutherland in Providence. While living in Miami, she sang with the Miami Opera Chorus, and later with the Connecticut Opera Chorus. Her second passion was art and she was particularly adept at painting beautiful watercolors. She was a member of the Wethersfield, West Hartford, Wintonbury Art Leagues, and the New Britain Museum of Modern Art, and her paintings were exhibited in each.
She leaves two nephews and their wives, A. Christopher Hall and Linda White Hall, of Harpswell, ME and Stephen L. Hall and Janet Dixon Hall of Simpsonville, SC; and two cousins, Nancy Popoloski of Gardner, MA and Kim Alvers of Green Cove Springs, FL. She was predeceased by her brother, Alexander J. Muszynski, Jr. and her sister, Cecilia M. Hall. Both her brother and her sister served during WWII. Alexander was lost while piloting a B24 over Mostar, Yugoslavia in 1944, and Cecilia served in the American Red Cross in England. Jo could always see the humor in every situation. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched.
There will be a private graveside service at the Village Cemetery, Wethersfield at a future date. Donations may be made to Animal Friends of Connecticut, P.O. 370306, West Hartford, CT 06137-0306, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
