Kathleen B. “Kathy” (Bray) Giantonio McKee, 89, longtime Wethersfield resident, peacefully passed away at her home, Tuesday, July 5, 2022 with her family by her side. Kathleen was born July 2, 1933, in The Bronx borough of New York and later moved and was raised in Rockaway Beach, in the borough of Queens. She was the only daughter to the late William and Kathleen (Kilgallon) Bray.
She attended school in the Bronx, and graduated from the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, Class of 1950. In 1972, after marrying her beloved husband Joseph Giantonio, Kathy relocated to Wethersfield, Connecticut where she met many of her lifelong friends. She worked for the Board of Education during her kids’ early years. She later took a job at Aetna, where she worked for many years before retiring. After her retirement from Aetna, she worked part time at Pendleton’s clothing as well as Caldwell Banker.
Kathleen was a devout Catholic and faithful Communicant of the Church of the Incarnation. She was one of the founding members of her esteemed neighborhood “Bridge Club” of Wethersfield, where sometimes Bridge was played. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, as well as many summers at Pine Acres Swim Club, and later at Mill Woods Park. Kathy most of all, cherished her time spent with her family. She absolutely adored and loved her three grandchildren, spending time with them in whatever way she could – she was their biggest fan and they too loved her back fiercely. She looked forward to her daily 5 o’clock martini as a treat as well – “But only one”, she would often say.
Kathleen will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her devoted family, her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Kristen Giantonio of Bristol; her daughter, Elizabeth Dolbeare of Cromwell; her three adored grandchildren, Mia, Cole, and Jaxon; her two nephews, William and Jonathan Bray; as well as many cousins. Along with her parents, Kathleen was pre-deceased by her three brothers, Jack, Richard and William “Buddy” Bray, as well as her first husband, Joseph Giantonio and second husband, William McKee.
Kathy’s family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, July 12 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield (all attendees are asked to go directly to church). Interment will follow the Mass in Cedar Hill Cemetery (Section 25), 453 Fairfield Ave., Hartford. To extend online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.
