Lawrence J. “Larry” Guilmet, 95, of Wethersfield, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday February 3, 2026.
Larry was born in Hartford on May 14, 1930, the son of the late Arthur and Clara (Pepin) Guilmet. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Phyllis (DiCioccio) Guilmet, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship.
A lifelong resident of the Hartford and Wethersfield communities, Lawrence proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. His service was recognized with the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Lawrence was a graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford and Morse College. He dedicated 30 years of service to the Town of Wethersfield, where he served as Finance Director until his retirement in 1995.
Larry took great pride in his home, especially his meticulously cared-for lawn, and could often be found working in the yard. He loved sitting outside, greeting neighbors as they passed, always ready with a warm hello and a gentle smile, his bright blue eyes catching the light and reflecting the kindness he carried so easily. When the weather turned too cold to sit outdoors, he found comfort watching the birds from his window. Above all else, Larry cherished his family and found his greatest joy in watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.
He leaves behind his loving children: Karen Guilmet-Pruett, Laurie (Daniel) Melesko, David Guilmet, Jay (Ed) Roberts; three grandchildren: Heather Melesko, Stephen (Corey) Patla, and David (Meaghan) Melesko; and three great-grandchildren: Bryce, Riley Jean, and Teaghan.
In addition to his wife and parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his brother, Leo Guilmet; his sisters, Doris Guilmet and Jacqueline Foster; and his brother-in-law, Vincent DiCioccio.
The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Larry’s beloved caregiver, Sodik “Sam” Mamadjonov, who was not only devoted in his care but also a true friend. Sam brought companionship, laughter, and joy through music to Larry’s days, keeping him active, engaged, and smiling. The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care and friendship Sam provided.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 9:30 a.m. at D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, followed by burial with military honors at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lawrence’s memory may be made to the Down Syndrome Foundation.
