
Lillian Scattareggia Varol passed away on May 2, 2007, in Apex, NC. She was 100 years old. She is survived by two sons, John E. Varol, Jr. of Hilton Head Island, SC and Ronald V. Varol of Cary, NC, and a daughter, Melanie Varol Cashio of Charlotte, NC; a daughter-in-law, Leonora Varol, and a son-in-law, C. Michael Cashio, Jr. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Lee, Jennifer McNally, John A. Varol, Lara Beninca, Michelle Allred and Jessica Cashio of Charlotte, NC; Ronald V. Varol, Jr. of Durham, NC, and Nicole Rifleman of Apex, NC, as well as four great-grandchildren, John, Lilly, Thomas and Alessandro. ?Aunt Lil? is also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Lillian was born August 6, 1906, in Brooklyn, NY of Italian immigrant parents, Vincenzo and Melina Scattareggia.. The family moved to Middletown, CT, in 1908, and later to Hartford. In 1938 Lillian married John E. Varol Sr. They raised their family in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY. Lillian taught third grade for many years. In 1975 they retired to Glastonbury, CT. Lillian moved to North Carolina in 1988, living first in Cary, then Charlotte, then Apex. She was pre-deceased by her brother Guy, her three sisters, Matilda, Adeline and Savarina, and her husband, John. Lillian is lovingly remembered as a good Christian woman, and a very spirited person with many interests including, music, dance, art, poetry, scouting, and politics. She adored the beach and went parasailing at the age of 91! She became an accomplished artist in her sixties, and in her seventies and eighties wrote charming memoirs of her life in her beloved Middletown at the turn of the century. Her main passion in life was love of her family and their welfare. Visitation and Catholic mass will be held at St. Matthew Church in Charlotte, NC. A second visitation will be held Monday (May 7) at the D?Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The committal service and burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Susan G.
