Lois ""Peggy"" (Kiss) Gervascio, age 89, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Anthony Gervascio, passed away at her home on Monday, (May 27, 2013) surrounded by family. Lois was born on August 29, 1923 in Meriden, and was the daughter of Aaron and Alice (Batten) Kiss. Lois described her childhood as being lost in books and movies. She told of coming out of a movie theater 1938 to find herself in the middle of a hurricane and having to find her way home through the flooded streets of Meriden. During World War II, Lois worked making radio crystals to support the war effort earning praise for her careful and accurate work. Lois was always creative and worked as a glass decorator in the Kiss Lamp Company, which was owned by her father, when she met and married her husband Anthony in 1958. After their marriage, Lois and Anthony moved into their home in Wethersfield where she lived for 55 years and raised their most prized possession, her family. Lois was a devoted wife and mother and created a warm and nurturing environment for her three children. After she had raised her children, Lois had the time to apply her creative energies to the needlework she loved; filling her and her families' houses with amazing cross stitch pictures that looked like paintings. As her children aged and had families of their own, she enjoyed being a grandmother and her family continued to be the focus of her life. When Anthony passed in 2003 she continued to live at her home in Wethersfield with her cats and Lady Jane, her constant companion for over 10 years, sat protecting her as she passed from this earth. Lois leaves behind a sister, Lucille (Kiss) O'Brien; and a brother, Nelson and his wife Charlene. She also leaves her prized family of three children and their families, Lucy, her husband Allan Albetski, their two daughters Katherine and Rachael and two grandchildren, Chris, his wife Tara and their two children Lindsey and Timothy, and Alice, her husband Philip Sheremeta and their daughter Chloe.
A funeral service for Lois will be held on Saturday, June 1, at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, followed by burial at the Village Cemetery in Wethersfield.
