Lucy Rizza

Lucy Rizza, 66, of Newington was called to rest on September 8, 2010. Lucy was born on June 8, 1944 in Sicily, Italy, the daughter of Nancy (Amenta) Rizza of Newington and the late Antonino Rizza. Lucy graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1963 and worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Labor for 26 years, serving as an Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner for OSHA, retiring in 2000. A devoted and faithful person, Lucy was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Lucy volunteered her time by teaching religious education to children who were preparing to receive the sacrament of First Holy Communion. Besides her loving mother, Lucy leaves her beloved family; two brothers and sisters -in-law, Joseph and Pinuccia Rizza and Salvatore and Josephine Rizza, all of Newington. Lucy also leaves her nieces and nephews, Nancy, Tim, Matthew and Arianna Larson of East Hartford; Sue, Sean, and Kayla Mahoney of Cromwell; Cindy and Rich Campbell of Rocky Hill; Nancy and Mary Casey of Newington; Anthony, Bailey, Toni Rizza and Lindsey Wood of Rowyaton; Rossella and Tim Hara of Hebron; and Elisa, Dan and Andrew Trelewicz of Fairfield. She was predeceased by her brothers, Victor and Sebastian Rizza of Sicily, Italy, and her nephew, Antonino Rizza of Stuttgart, Germany. Funeral will be Friday (September 10, 2010) beginning at 11 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 183 Church Street, Newington. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Friday, one hour prior to leaving for the church (10 - 11 a.m.), at the funeral chapel in Wethersfield.
