Maria (Diaz Mendez) Perez, 81, of Hartford, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the beloved wife of Isaac P. Gonzalez, who predeceased her. She was born on April 20, 1935 in Gurabo, Puerto Rico to the late Casildo and Micaela (Diaz) Mendez. Maria had lived in Hartford since 1959 and was a longtime member of the North Spanish Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was never shy about speaking her mind. Maria was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, created wonderful meals, and loved to take trips anywhere her daughters invited her to go. She was always happiest when she was surrounded by her daughters, granddaughters and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a caring, nurturing and generous woman. She is survived by her three daughters, Nelida Perez, Nancy and her husband Michael Collins and Yvonne Carrion; three adored grandchildren, Evelis and her husband Antonio Rosa, Shannon Carrion and her partner Steve, and Micaela Collins and four cherished great-grandchildren, Antonio, Aniyahlis, Jayden and Alina. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses in 8-1 at St. Francis Hospital. Also, a very special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Charles Kantor and the office staff for always accommodating our beloved mother.
