Marye A. Cerra

It is with a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother Marye Cerra. Marye passed peacefully at Civita in Newington on November 22, 2024. Born Mary Anest on November 15, 1932 to George Sava (Anastasakis) and Angeline (Mascolo) Anest. Marye graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1950 she went on to marry and start her family. Marye always had a passion for theater and fashion. In the mid 60's she started The Creative Workshop of Theater, Arts and Dance in Hartford where she taught various forms of dance. She also worked for the City of Hartford teaching dance at varies parks throughout the city. She wrote and directed several plays including Three, Special Something, The Velvet Hook and Do As You Please that were preformed at various venues throughout Hartford. Marye was a very talented seamstress and in 1969 she opened Capriccio Boutique making one of a kind creations all done by hand. Marye was also a gourmet cook. She loved cooking for friends and family and was a gracious hostess. In 1991 she became the director of the Southwest Senior Center where she cooked and served meals for area seniors. She remained until she retired in 2011.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Cyndy Cerra of Wethersfield, daughter and son-in-law Lori Cerra and Jay Cody, of Westerly, Rhode Island, son and daughter-in-law Anthony Cerra and Josie Cerra of Wethersfield. She leaves behind 4 grandchildren Tatialia of East Hartford, Anthony Cerra of Rocky Hill, Michael Cerra of Rocky Hill and Maria Cerra of Coventry, and 3 great grandchildren Matthew Marrero, Alexia Marrero and Lilliana Cerra, her cousin Joseph Mascolo, nieces Kathryn Carle and Carol Anest. She was predeceased by her brother Sammy Anest and grandson Matthew Crane.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Compasses especially Amy, Kelsie, Michael and Jess for the compassion and love they showed not only to mom, but to the family during the last months of her life. Also thank you to the staff at Civita for taking such good care of our mother.
