

Maxine (Rice) Carrier, 82, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Armand I. Carrier, died peacefully Monday (August 1, 2011) at Jefferson House, Newington. She was born October 28, 1928 in Birch Harbor, Maine and was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Judith (Dyer) Rice. She was a graduate of Winter Harbor High School, Class of 1945. Maxine was a longtime faithful communicant and member of the Women's Club at Corpus Christi Church. She was a leader in Brownie and Girl Scout Troops and volunteered at the Media Center at the former Mitchell School. Maxine enjoyed cooking, reading, and trips to Cape Cod and Maine, but her greatest enjoyment in life was her family and friends. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, she will be dearly missed by all. Maxine's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Reginio, Dr. Spath, Dr. Dasanu, and Dr. Dicks and the staff and caregivers at Jefferson House for the love, care and compassion shown to Maxine and her family. She is survived by her three children, Judy Igielski and her husband John of Newington, Lorraine C. Jacobs and her husband John of East Hartford, and Richard Carrier of Rocky Hill; two sisters, LaNeta Phaneuf and her husband David of West Gouldsboro, ME and Sylvia Green and her husband James of Prospect Harbor, ME, her brother, Malcolm Rice and his wife Sharon of Palm Bay, FL; four grandchildren, Susan Erwin and her husband John of Bolton, Sharon Papale and her husband Michael of Colchester, John Jacobs of Hartford and Shannon Jacobs of Stamford; three great-grandchildren, Katrina Erwin, Gabrielle Papale and Joey Papale, many nieces and nephews and two close friends, Karen Olsen of Wethersfield and Mary Ann Manning of Jewett City. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Lucille Champa of Bristol and Beatrice Carrier of Newington. She was predeceased by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Walter Champa, Romeo ""John"" and Adrienne Carrier, Emil and Rita Ouellette, Frank and Priscilla Rajtar and Ernie Carrier.
Funeral service will leave Thursday, August 4, at 10:45 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Family and friends may call TODAY from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
