Richard S. Barney

Richard S. Barney, 84, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Beverly (Alward) Barney, died Monday (September 12, 2011) at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Stafford Springs, he was the son of the late Edward S. and Adeline (Mayo) Barney and lived in Wethersfield for most of his life. He retired as Assistant Director of Banking Services at Travelers Insurance Company after many years of service. He was U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 7827 of Wethersfield, the Escort Carrier Sailors and Airmen Association and the American Association of Navy Hospital Corpsmen. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Steven R. Barney and his wife Lynn Majkowski; two daughters, Susan E. Olander and Jennifer M. Fagan and her husband Paul; two brothers, Donald G. Massengill of Lewisville, NC and Robert D. Board of Laurel, DE; his sister, SueAnn M. Mindler of Columbiana, AL; three grandchildren, Aja O. Wood, Alexander F. Bauer and Kasimir Majkowski and three great-grandchildren, Conor Wood, Killian Wood and Devlin Wood. He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald A. Oakes and Edward C. Moulton. Richard's family wishes to thank VNA Hospice for all their support and care.

Funeral services with full military honors will be private. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW National Home for Children, Connecticut House Program, 2573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. The James T. Pratt Funeral Service, Wethersfield is entrusted with the arrangements.
