

Richard H. ""Dick"" Deming, Jr. 94, son of the late Judge Richard H. Deming and the late Mary Fuller Deming, died Friday, (September 23, 2011) at Duncaster, Bloomfield. He was born April 1, 1917 in Hartford and was a long time resident of West Hartford, Bloomfield and Squirrel Island, Maine. Dick was predeceased by his first wife of 62 years, Heath Hinsdale Deming in 2005. He is survived by his second wife of six years, Annette Brewer Hamlin Deming of Bloomfield, his daughter, Gretchen D. Cheney and her husband, Nathaniel B. Cheney of Cedar Grove, NJ; his son, Richard H. Deming, III of Carmel Valley, CA; his granddaughter Kate C. Myhre and her husband, Michael Myhre, of Newburyport, MA; two great grandchildren, Alexander Deming Myhre and Owen Swenson Myhre. Dick also leaves his niece Ann Faude Newbury and her husband, Samuel Newbury and a nephew, Wilson Hinsdale Faude and his wife, Janet Bailey Faude, He also is survived by two step children, Charles H. Hamlin III and his wife Mary Ann and Buena Hamlin Chilstrom , six grand children and four great grand children. He attended Kingswood School in West Hartford, graduated from Westminster School in Simsbury and Yale Engineering School in 1940. Dick was employed by Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for many years before becoming CEO of Accurate Threaded Products of Newington, a manufacturer of precision aircraft engine parts, retiring in 1976. As a summer resident of Squirrel Island Maine, he at one time was Chairman of the Board of Overseers and a founder and president of the Squirrel Island Preservation Foundation. He was a member of the Hartford Golf Club and as an avid sailor, was a member of several Yacht Clubs. He moved to Duncaster, a Retirement Community in Bloomfield in 2004.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 30 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 679 Farmington Av. West Hartford. A reception will follow. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
