

Richard (Dick) Gammons Rouse, 86, of Rocky Hill, CT., formerly of Wethersfield, the beloved husband of Janice (Davis) Rouse for 63 years passed away peacefully Sunday, March 30, 2014. Dick was born in Ludlow, MA. and was the son of Arthur W. and Ruth (Gammons) Rouse. He was a graduate of Wethersfield High School class of 1945 and the University of Connecticut in 1950. While at UCONN he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 during World War II. He later received his Masters Degree in Education from Hillyer College. He was the Registrar of Iolani (Episcopal) School in Honolulu, T.H., where he directed the admissions program for entering students and assisted them with their college selections. He became the Director of Auxiliary Services for the Wethersfield School Department and served as the Director of Adult Education. He then joined Arthur A. Watson & Company where he became a partner in charge of personnel and when the firm incorporated he became the Treasurer. After retiring, he rejoined the Wethersfield School Department as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools. Dick also served as Chairman of the Wethersfield Library Board, he was a Vestryman and Clerk of the Parish for Trinity Episcopal Church and the past President of the Society of St. Andrew, Connecticut Assembly. Mr. Rouse attended Trinity Parish for some 74 years. In addition he was an active member of American Legion, Post 23 of Wethersfield along with being a dedicated genealogist. He authored a book entitled ""The Gammons Family of Southeastern Massachusetts"" and was a life member of the Mayflower Society of Connecticut and the Jeremiah Wadsworth Branch of the Sons of the American Revolution. During his research he discovered that the wife of his best friend of sixty years, Dick Sagan, Betty (Ferris) Sagan was a sixth cousin once removed. Besides his wife Janice, Dick is survived by his children and their spouses, Deborah & Eric Haeseler of Suffield, CT., Sharon and David Forrest of Rocky Hill, CT., Elizabeth and Andrew Tripp of New Hartford, CT., and Richard D. and Linda Rouse of Newington, CT. Dick was pre-deceased by his sister Cynthia Sherman Ganter. He also leaves six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren along with several nephews and nieces. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of DaVita Dialysis for their care of Mr. Rouse. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2014 at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, 300 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield.
