Robert Oliver Bingham, 67, of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 27 years of Mercella (Manhertz) Bingham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024, in the loving arms of his devoted wife. Born in Mt. Vernon, New York on January 29, 1957, he was the only son of Oliver and Carmen Virginia (Bynoe) Bingham. Robert graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School and earned his dual bachelor’s degree in accounting/marketing from Pace University, New York.
He worked in accounting in NY corporations, and then as an Administrator at Columbia University for many years before packing up counting beans to counting sound waves to become a Registered Ultrasound Sonographer. Robert’s love for this field led to his final employment as an ultrasound technician for Hartford Healthcare for the past 17 years.
Bob’s expensive hobby was flying and he worked hard at becoming a private pilot. Prior to living in CT, he enjoyed flying on a Saturday afternoon and shared this experience not just with his wife but with some young men at church. Bob had a knock to quietly motivate and encourage others to be at their best. For many years, he organized and led the youth group’s annual Snow Camp to Word of Life in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed watching football, especially the NY Jets. Going to several NJ/Brooklyn Nets games and after moving to Connecticut, the CT Suns games were always an enjoyable time. Attending Broadway and Off-Broadway shows and cruising the Caribbean were also fun activities and strong interest that were actively enjoyed.
Bob also attended New York School of the Bible and was an active member of Bronx Gospel Hall from childhood and a member of Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church for 21 years. He used his skills and abilities to serve the Lord, on the property, mission, and finance committees, served in Parent Night Out – WEFC past monthly community outreach. He participated in two mission trips to Peru and Houston to help victims of natural disasters. He also participated in Love Like You Mean It Marriage Cruise short term mission trip in Belize.
In addition to his loving wife and mother, Robert will be forever missed by all his in-laws, church family members, and many work friends.
