

Salvatore Piccolo, 90, of Wethersfield, loving husband for 57 years of Anna Maria 'Nina' (Rossi) Piccolo, passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep early in the morning of Wednesday, (February 10, 2010) in the Wethersfield Health Care Center. Salvatore was the son of the late Francesco and Emma (Falleti) Piccolo and was born on April 10, 1919, in Taurianova, Province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. He served in the Italian Army and later in the Carabinieri Corps before emigrating first to Montreal, Canada, where he married his wife, Nina, on April 19, 1952, and then to Hartford, CT. Salvatore and Nina then moved their family to Wethersfield in 1961. Salvatore was formerly employed by Little Products in Hartford where he built exercise bicycles. Later he owned two restaurants: Piccolo's Pizza & Restaurant in Hartford and Vernon and was co-owner of Pat & Sal's Restaurant in East Hartford along with his brother, the late Pasquale Piccolo. Salvatore retired in 1984 and settled into a life of leisure enjoying gardening, cooking, making home made wines and liqueurs and spending time with family. Besides his wife, Nina, Salvatore is survived by three devoted daughters, Emma M. Russell and her husband, James, of East Sandwich, MA, Mary S. Campbell and her husband, David, of Lancaster, MA, and Rita R. Conklin and her husband, Brian, of Montville; his grandchildren, Elizabeth and Katherine Russell, and Alexandra Campbell; his step-granddaughter, Roxanne (Conklin) Armbruster; step-great-grandchildren, Emma, Noah and Addison; his in-laws, Maria Antoinette Piccolo of Wethersfield, Anthony Rossi and his wife, Rose, of Wethersfield, and Louis Rossi of Wethersfield; his sister, Giuseppina Crocitti of Wethersfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and in Italy. Salvatore was predeceased by his two brothers, Pasquale and Domenico Piccolo; and by three sisters, Rosa Alampi, Giroloma LaRosa and Montagna Piccolo. Funeral services will begin Saturday, February 13, at 10 a.m., from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by an 11:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield.
