Vincent J. Mazzarella, 96, of Plainville, beloved husband for 55 years of the late Eleanor Valeri Mazzarella, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024 at the Apple Rehab Center in Plainville. Vinnie was born in Port Chester, New York on January 12, 1928, son of the late Vincent and Salvatrice (Prince) Mazzarella. He worked for the city of Hartford for 38 years. Vinnie started as a painter number 1 and by the time he retired in 1990 he was the director of facility services. He achieved this with only an eighth-grade education. Vinnie was a lifetime member of the Elks and an avid golfer until his later years. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1946 until 1947. Vinnie was extremely talented when it came to any of the trades. He was a painter by trade, but was efficient at carpentry, plumbing, masonry, etc.
Vinnie is survived by two sons, Vincent Mazzarella, Jr. and his wife Connie of Wethersfield and Michael Mazzarella, Sr. and his wife, Rosemarie of Portland; two grandchildren, Allison Mazzarella and her husband Andrew Harris of Burlington, MA and Michael Mazzarella, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Portland and four great-grandchildren who he cherished and adored, he was their ‘big poppy’ to Cooper and Salvatore Harris and Reese and Rory Mazzarella. He also leaves two sisters, Margie D’Alessandro of Rocky Hill and Angie Piacentini of Wethersfield, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife of 55 years, he was also predeceased by his companion for the last 18 years, Dorothy Dicarlo; his four brothers, Anthony, Thomas, Ernest and Joseph Mazzarella and four sisters, Connie Chila, Carmela Bellantoni, Sarah Conforto and Mary Leone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish – St. James Church Campus, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, April 29, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
