Agnes Raynes Breeden

Agnes Raynes Breeden, 92, of Mt. Sidney passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Brookdale-Staunton. She was born on September 1, 1931 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Jacob F. and Gracie E. Randall Raynes. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Agnes attended Port Republic High School, in early life lived in Rockingham County, and worked for DuPlant; after marriage moved to Augusta County to raise her family and work on the farm. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting and her Depression glass collection. On July 1, 1950, she married Earle James Breeden, Sr., who preceded her in death on July 10, 2019. She is survived by her children, Sheryl Peregoy of Grottoes, Deborah Rankin (Ronnie) of Staunton, Tammy Cox (Michael) of Mt. Sidney and Steven Breeden (Theresa) of Stuarts Draft; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jack Chandler of Waynesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Earle J. Breeden, Jr; a granddaughter, Faith Diehl; son-in-law, Gary Peregoy; six siblings and a special sister-in-law, Jean Chandler. Friends and family may visit at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Michael Cox at any time. A funeral service will be held 10 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave with Rev. Charles “Ed” Pruitt, Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
