He was born in Harrisonburg on June 23, 1941 and was the son of Parker and Jenevee Berry Butler.
James was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church in Fishersville and was retired from Supply One in Weyers Cave.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda E. Butler; a son, James R. Butler, II and wife, Amy of Washington, DC and a sister, Judy Way of Dayton.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 28, at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave with Pastor Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Weyers Cave with Military Rites by Dayton American Legion Post #27.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weyers Cave Fire Department, P. O. Box 69, Weyers Cave, VA 24486.
