James "Jim" Norman Riddel, Jr.

James “Jim” Norman Riddel, Jr., 86, a resident of Weyers Cave, passed away at his home on Monday, January 1, 2024. He was born on August 15, 1937 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late James N. Riddel and Madeline Eagle Shickel. Jim served his country in the US Army. He was a truck driver and dockworker for Smith Transfer; he drove a tanker for Service Oils Inc., Harrisonburg, VA; he worked for Shenandoah’s Pride and installed swimming pools for C & D Pools before retiring. He was a carpenter and a jack-of-all-trades. He loved camping and riding through the countryside. He was an avid supporter of Holly and her softball team and an avid fan of James and his baseball team. On March 22, 1958, he married Nellie Miller Riddel, who survives. He is also survived by a son, James “J.N.” Riddel, III and wife, Sandra, of Weyers Cave; a daughter, Debbie Sutton and husband, Gene, of Waynesboro; a grandson, James Norman Riddel IV; a brother in law, Roy Swope of Dayton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a granddaughter, Holly N. Dean and a sister, Nancy Swope, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave. Family and friends are welcome to the family home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Friday, January 5, 2024 at the funeral home with Rev. Amy Pannell officiating. Burial will follow at Weyers Cave Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weyers Cave Fire Department or Weyers Cave United Methodist Church.
