

Age 98, of Belliveau Cove, passed away peacefully in the loving care of family and friends in QEII Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Born on December 11, 1914, she was the daughter of Alfred and Odellie (Buckley) Melanson of Weymouth. She was predeceased by husband, Basile Belliveau, and her siblings: brothers, Wilfred (infant), Louie, Clarence; sisters, Pauline (Glennie), Marie (Pollock/Kraft) and Joan Melanson. She is survived by sons, Jean Louis and René; daughters, Hélène (Duncan) -Armstrong, Jeannine; granddaughters Jacinte and Janik Armstrong; great-grandson, Céu Armstrong Nel; many nieces and nephews and brother-in-law, Don Hoppe. Evelyn taught school before and after raising her family, and was known to all as a friendly, spirited person who accepted everyone, friend and stranger alike, unconditionally. She greeted all visitors with a warm smile, a twinkle in her eyes and sincere warmth and happiness. She was always ready to entertain with her sense of humour, her wisdom, her wit, her songs and her legendary signature poem. One of Evelyn’s favourite sayings was “you get what you give” and she always appreciated the power of small things to create happiness in life. She found something each and every day to be grateful for. A funeral mass will be held in St. Bernard Church on Saturday, August 3rd at 11am; reception to follow.
