
Sister Anna Mincy Payne, 92, of Willingboro, formerly of Whiting passed away on Monday at the Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly. When one is searching for a person whose life exemplifies service to God and man, one does not have to search far, for such an individual as Anne Payne. Born on May 14, 1919, in Georgia, Sister Payne moved to New Jersey at the age of two with her parents, who settled in Whitesville. She attended the grammar school for a short period of time and eventually moved to Lakewood, where she attended the schools there, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1937.
She moved to Whiting, married Charles Payne (known by close friends as "Hump") Everyone knows Sister Payne's involvement with the Macedonia Baptist Church. In spite of the long highway trips to Lakewood, she remained very active in the church. Sister Payne has been a member of the Senior Choir and Women's Chorus; president of Willing Workers, financial secretary of the church, treasurer for the church Cotillion since its inception, as well as a volunteer in numerous church sponsored activities. Sister Payne has been affiliated with the Eastern Stars since 1957 and has served faithfully as secretary, Lady Electa #22 O.E.S., P.H.A.; Past Matron, Lady Electa #22 (Lakewood); P.G. Marshal in West; P.G.C.C.F.C., O.E.S.P.H.A. State and Jurisdiction of New Jersey.
Sister Payne's employer until her retirement in 1977 was Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix, NJ., where she maintained a spotless reputation as dietary cook. Her community contacts remain strong, even though she had moved to Willingboro, NJ., to be closer to her family.
She husband Charles of 65 years predeceased her in 2003, also her three brothers and a sister. Surviving is her son Robert and his wife Joyce of Willingboro, her sister Lucille of Georgia, three grandsons Robert of New York, Gregory of Willingboro, and Michael of Delaware. Also surviving are four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting. Funeral services will Saturday at 11 AM at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Lakewood, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers contribution may be made in her name to the Macedonia Baptist Church in Lakewood, NJ.
