Barbara Reiter

Barbara, J. Reiter, 82, of Whiting, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 surrounded by family at the Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. She was a homemaker who was a ‘gourmet’ cook who loved her family above all else. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, more recently a congregant at the Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting. Barbara was an avid bridge player & teacher and was very active in the church and at Whiting Station. Born in Astoria, Queens, N.Y., she spent her early years in Barbados, West Indies before relocating to Greenlawn, L.I., N.Y. and finally to Whiting in 1995.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years Warren Reiter and their children, Christopher Reiter and his wife Linda of Albuqueque, N.M., a daughter Valerie Scalia and her husband Richard of East Brunswick, a daughter Dorothy Phillips and her husband Richard of Niskayuna, N.Y., and a son Timothy Reiter and his wife Julia of Levittown, N.Y. Also surviving are their grandchildren, Justin, Ian, Heather, Hannah, Ben, Nicholas, Michael, Jared, & Rebecca. Also surviving are great grandchildren, Luke, Logan, Leia, & Cole.

Friends may call on Monday, December 16 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 17 at 10am from the Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse, Whiting. Committal will be private.
