

Carl was born in Longdale, OK on May 29th at the family farm, son of the late John Harvey Heer and Mary Smith.
Drafted into the Army during the Korean War, Carl reported for duty at Fort Rucker AL. Feb. 1951. where he served with Henry Mitchell. After returning from overseas duty, the two were granted leave, and Henry invited him to his home for the weekend where he met Edith Mitchell. The two fell in love. Married to Edith on Feb 2nd, 1952, they began their life together for the next 66 years. With the birth of their first daughter Cathy Ann in 1953 they travelled back to Longdale OK. They settled on the family farm, where their second daughter Sherry Kay was born in 1955. After several years of family growth, new opportunities took the family to points north, and Ohio where Carl Steven was born in 1960, then on to Michigan where John Harvey was born in 1968.
Over the next 45 years, Carl made the family home in Fowlerville MI. He Was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 that began in 1956. Retiring after 35 years as Construction Superintendent for the Holloway Const. Co., with the Dallas Fort Worth Airport, and the Michigan International Speedway, Highlighting his professional career, along with many other successful projects over the years.
Upon his retirement in 1991, Carl and Edith returned to Oklahoma where they enjoyed 12 years of being re-united with their extensive network of family and friends, In Oklahoma he resumed his love of playing music with his brothers of whom there were 6, singing in the church choir, and recording music with the Harmony Lighthouse.
Another passion for Carl was Fishing, he enjoyed this pastime all his life beginning with his beloved brother Calvin walking 3 miles down a gravel road to fish off the bank of the North Canadian River, to the Great Lakes and rivers of Michigan, to eventually the Atlantic Ocean. His greatest love was fishing on his Canton Lake formed by a damn that he worked to build in 1946, Carl fished in numerous Walleye Derby’s (his unspoken favorite) and still holds the State Record for the largest fish caught in Oklahoma.
Carl was a devoted Christian servant of over 75 years, coming from a Mennonite influence in his youth. He served as deacon at various times in the Baptist Church and was a founding member of several congregations over the years.
Father of the late Cathy Dangler, Grandfather of the late Michael Hough, Father-in-Law of the late James Hough, and Duane Dangler. Carl is survived by daughter Sherry Hough, son John H Heer and wife Cindy, son Carl S Heer and wife Dawn, 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00PM at the funeral home.
