Harold Joseph Haslach known as “Haszy” passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 surrounded by his family. Haszy was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and also lived in Toms River before moving to Whiting in 2006.
Haszy had a beautiful singing voice and had a group called the “Solar Tones”. He sang lead and also did background. They performed at the Mount Carmel Church dances in Jersey City. He also harmonized on Journal Square in Jersey City with a couple of friends who went on to become “The Duprees”, but Haszy had joined the Marines.
Haszy joined the Marines in 1962 and proudly served his country. He was part of the the Military Police and a trained rifleman and sniper. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and the Marine Corp League. After returning home in 1967 he worked in construction, and on the docks, as a bartender, and drove a tractor trailer for Spector Freight in Secaucus, NJ from which he retired in 1984. Some of Haszy’s interests included skiing, ice skating, swimming in which he received many medals for, gardening, running, biking and just being very athletic. He was also a Cowboy football fan.
Haszy was a wonderful and loving Husband and Father. He was a big animal lover and rescued their current cat “Sparkle”.
Haszy is survived by his loving wife, Janice of 46 years; a daughter, Susan Haslach of Manchester Township; a son, Joseph Haslach of Manchester Township; a sister, Joan Haslach; his Mother-in-Law, Helen Murphy/Dattilo; his Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Chris & Len Carlucci; Joe & Jacqueline Murphy; Michael & Margie Murphy and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his Mother, Helen Haslach; his Father, Joseph Haslach and his Brother, Robert Haslach.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 11:30am – 1:30pm at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ 08759. A committal service will be held the same day at 2:30pm at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 with military honors.
