Joan F. Fortin, 88, of Whiting, NJ went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 12, 2021. She was born Joan Faye Frischholz on August 30, 1933 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of August J. and Helen (Simons) Frischholz.
She moved to Staten Island, NY in 1948, and later moved to Columbus, NJ and then to Whiting, NJ in 2008. On November 20, 1954, she married William E. Fortin with whom she just celebrated their 67th Anniversary.
Joan was an avid gardener, reader and Bible Study student and teacher. She also loved to knit – baby sweaters being her specialty. Whenever she heard of the arrival of a newborn baby in church or among family or friends, a baby sweater would arrive at their homes.
Painting was another of her interests, having met her husband William in a Commercial Art Class in McKee High School in Staten Island. She won an award for her paintings at a local Art Show in 2016. Her paintings grace the homes of many of her family and friends. She was also awarded the title of Ocean County Woman of the Year in 2010.
The best day of her life was when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and surrendered her life to Him. As a result, we know that she is enjoying eternal life with Him and has been reunited with all her loved ones who have done the same.
She is survived by her husband William E. Fortin, and her children Gary W. Fortin and his wife Elaine, Alan E. Fortin and his wife Lori, William D. Fortin and his wife Deborah, Edward J. Fortin and his wife Dawn, and David P. Fortin.
Also surviving are her grandchildren Christopher Fortin, Aaron Fortin (son of Elise Fortin), Brooke Henninger (daughter of Lori Fortin), Eric Fortin, and Jacob Fortin, and great grandchildren Sean Sanders-Fortin, Noah Henninger, Olive Henninger, June Henninger and Isaac Henninger.
Also surviving is her brother David Frischholz. She was predeceased by her sister Helen Knoblauch.
