Philip Anthony Richiuso, 68, of Whiting, NJ, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 12, 2026. While his final years and last days were marked by a long and difficult battle with health complications, he faced every hurdle with the same grit that defined his life. He was surrounded by the love of his wife and daughter as he transitioned from this life to the next.
Born on September 10, 1957, in Newark, New Jersey, to Richard and Geraldine Richiuso, Phil was a man of action and conviction. He joined the United States Navy at just 17 years old, serving honorably on the USS Constitution and the USS Ponce. Following his service, he spent much of his career in building maintenance and home improvements. He also graduated from Rhema Bible College and dedicated much of his life to Christian missions, particularly in Eastern Europe.
Thirteen years ago, Phil was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), an aggressive form of blood cancer. He met the diagnosis with immense courage, undergoing a bone marrow transplant that granted him a hard-won second chance at life. He made the most of those "bonus" years.
Phil was at his happiest in a kitchen filled with the latest gadgets, baking bread and cookies to share with neighbors and friends. He was a natural storyteller who had a unique gift for putting people at ease; within minutes of meeting him, people would find themselves opening up and sharing their life stories, always leaving with his genuine encouragement.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Philip Andrew Richiuso, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Richiuso, and his daughter, Jessica Richiuso. They will remember him for his strength and gregarious personality, and are grateful for the extra time they were able to share together. He also leaves behind his siblings and many dear friends.
Committal of Philip’s ashes will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2006 at 2:00PM at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phil’s memory to NMDP, a non-profit dedicated to saving the lives of patients with blood cancers: https://fundraise.nmdp.org/campaigns/phil_richiuso
